| Executive Coaching
Overview Many executives possess technical expertise yet lack the leadership skills necessary to inspire, focus, and drive results through others. Instead of leading, they get over-involved in day-to-day operations and technical problem solving. Results and morale suffer. Coaching provides such individuals with a unique opportunity to acquire essential leadership skills in an accelerated, individualized manner. Outcomes typically include: Understanding the breadth & depth of a leadership role Acquiring leadership, management, and communication competencies Overcoming stylistic impediments Putting new knowledge into action in the workplace Increased group productivity and satisfaction
Typical Coaching Engagements Situations where coaching has yielded significant results include: Executives whose stylistic deficits discourage teamwork and impede performance Key individuals whose management deficits hinder productivity Executives who require additional competencies to fulfill new responsibilities Strong performers being groomed for growing responsibility Executives requiring fast assimilation into a new company to accelerate their impact
EDG Approach Coaching programs are tailored to each executive’s unique deliverables, organizational situation, and areas for growth and improvement. Key elements of coaching programs are establishing a development plan, implementing the plan, and monitoring progress. Establishing a Development Plan Identify program goals and process with the executive and his supervisor Assess the executive’s strengths, stylistic preferences, and areas for improvement; data gathered through the executive’s self-perception, 360 degree interviews/surveys, and video simulations Executive and coach review the data, identify competencies critical for success, devise a provisional action plan, and ID methods for tracking progress Executive’s supervisor provides input and approval of program targets, scope, and budget
Implementing the Plan Regular 1:1 coaching sessions at 1-2 week intervals Executive receives instruction and/or videotaped practice in critical areas for improved leadership and management competency and establishes plans for application to the work setting Efforts at execution reviewed in subsequent sessions
Reviewing Progress and Program Resolution Coaching sessions provided until desired behavior change and enhanced performance have occurred and have been validated by the assessment group, the executive’s supervisor, and/or human resources Follow-up meetings held periodically to consolidate initial gains & ensure continued performance impact
